Hi everyone,
I love my morning coffee but it's becoming an expensive addiction. Now that I have tasted fresh filter coffee, I can't go back to instant coffee (which I find disgusting). Apart from looking for BOGOF or half price offers in supermarkets, can anyone suggest a delicious and very affordable coffee. I haven't tried supermarkets' own brands (Aldi, Lidl, Tesco) and was wondering if someone could advise? I am looking for coffee of medium strength (not expresso type).
Thanks in advance.

Hi, we get ours from home bargains, choice of douwe egberts and lyons and several varietys of both.£1 per pack, uually about £2.50 to £3.50 at least so big saving. Lyons superior and douwe egberts no 5 for filter machines are both good. know what you mean, instant is awful when you are used to fresh.
sometimes poundland has douwe egberts as well, long dates.0 -
The Douwe Egberts bags in Home bargains are lighter than those in the regular supermarkets. The Lyons bags in Hone Bargains are slightly heavier than the Douwe Egbarts ones. I think Lyons is 175g and DE is 150g if memory serves right. I now buy Bellaroma Gold 500g packs for £3.29 from Lidl and think it's fine.0

Yeah, I get Lyons from the 99p Store, I think they sometimes do Douwe Egberts as well. I tend to use these in a stove espresso coffee pot as my cafetiere broke a while ago. I actually prefer the coffee made like that and haven't reverted back to using a cafetiere since even though I bought a new one recently, appears stronger if made in a espresso coffee pot. Think the 99p Store do slightly smaller packets now though still appear cheaper than what you get in the supermarkets.0

Lidl Gold is nice and I can really recommend Sainsbury's Basics which is fair trade & great for the price. I usually have a bag of this at work for an individual filter coffee as like you instant is just nasty with a really odd back taste. Mellicano is supposed to be the best (closest to fresh) instant coffee and a colleague has swapped to this rather than his cafetiere.
Cost wise I don't seem to be paying any more than when we just had instant.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -

Mellicano - I bought this when it was on offer a while back. I think it's a terrible filter coffee taste and an ok instant coffee. But I don't like instant so I brought it in to work.
I am also looking for cheap filter coffee so thanks for the thread.0 -

yes I get mine from QD 99p!0 -
There's a great range in Aldi, Italian, French, Amercian, Brazilian, Colombian etc., cheaper than the major supermarkets and excellent taste.0
