Thing is be1234, as Magnum advertise at the Job Centre, if people look at the job and are invited for interview, they then find out it isn't an interview, it is an open day, at the end of which they may be invited to interview.
JSA is around 72 pounds a week to live on, so venturing out of the house if you have one has to be done very carefully. Its alright if bank of mum and dad pay for such excursions.
Here is the problem - if someone looks at the job on the Job Direct website and does not go to the open day, they can be sanctioned. The Job centre get told by Magnum who went and who didn't and it is categorised as an interview even though Magnum then reveal it isn't.
If someone is on JSA and starts enquiring with Magnum, because of the way they do things, they could end up with that 72 pounds taken away, and that can destroy them.
Unless you can afford a day out at Magnum to see if you could be wanting to apply, maybe be careful. If you are on Job Seekers Allowance perhaps you cannot afford to click on them, try to determine if the job you are looking at on Jobs Direct (or whatever it is called this week) is Magnum or not - it could cost you everything when you are at the bottom of the heap to even look upward. No debts. No credit cards. No store cards. No mortgage. No CCJs. High credit rating intact. Living frugally. Want to start business soon. Trying to keep head above water; while standing on own feet; staying within the law; and not falling into debt. Looking to raise income, who isn't?0 -
Bit of an old thread but I had the dubious pleasure of working for Magnum so will provide some info.
Magnum are a firm that do door to door selling and shopping centre selling for a small handful of clients.
During my time there the main one was the British Legion and a trial scheme for a legal firm that write wills.
All this junk about passing interviews is nonsense, they don't pay a wage so as long as you're not a complete tool you'll pretty much get a job.
What they do is pay you a 'commission' on each sale so even if you only get one deal a day it's money for them with no outlay
For the British Legion you were selling a monthly direct debit which entered you into their charity lottery each week. For each person you signed up you got paid a flat fee of about a tenner.
What I didn't like is that during training you were told to tell the people you were 'volunteers' and doing this for free when in fact what you were actually doing was getting paid for signing them up and as you got paid £10 and the lottery was only four pound something a month it meant it was at least 5-6 months of donations before the RBL actually saw any of that money once you, your team leader and Magnum themselves took their cut.
Likewise, their 'in your own home will writing' sales they done for a firm called Trust Inheritance worked ona similar basis where you promised them a will for somethign ridiculous like £25 then they sent round a 'will writer' who was really a salesman to do the hard sell and try to pressure you into buying additional services.
I earnt 'OK' money while I was with them and they didn't scam me in any way but you had to work very hard for it, with a thick skin and ignore any morals you may have.0 -
I worked for Magnum Direct for over 3 years, I got on well, earned good money and would say give it a shot.
I did well because I am a salesman... Don't try if you don't like the word NO.0
