Sofa Bed for an old person?

I have an Great Aunt that does this, says she is staying down because she doesn't like leaving the dog downstairs on his own! (Even though he would quite happily follow her up) But also when suggested moving her bed down said no as thats what they did when her husband was ill and I think she see's it as the final thing before popping off.
Her kids bought her a chair that reclined right back which is sooooo comfy (well I know everytime I sit in it I doze off) but she seem to prefer the lumpy sofa and to complain about her back.
I agree with whoever said to take her with you when buying I have a sofa bed which although very comfy is a nightmare to pull out!
Good luck
YDSMI wish I would take my own advice!0 -

She has one of those chairs, we bought it for Dad to help him. I've slept in it myself when I was nursing him overnight and it is amazingly comfy but she curls up on the tiny sofa!!
Its the pulling mechanism that concerns me though, I guess I was just curious if they are as much hard work as I recall!0 -
I've got one of those sofa beds you just pull back. I only bought it recently, to give us more space in our conservatory as it doesn't have arms and to act as an extra bed if we have guests. Mine was a cheap one, just under £200 from The Range. There's probably better quality ones if you look for them. Because mine is long with no arms, I have slept on it as it is without having to make it into a double bed.0

The problems with sofa beds and older people is that if they yank their back, arm, leg, at any time ( and it can happen any time) it may be just painful enough for them not to be able to open a sofa bed so they're back to square one and sleeping on the sofa. Also there may be nights when they just can't be faffed to open the sofa bed, so they're back to square one again and sleeping on the sofa.
There's lots to think about, and probably the best first step would be for you mum to find a sofa bed she can sit on comfortably for any length of time becuase she'll probably be sitting on it for more hours than sleeping on it. Then - check out how easy for your mum the mechanism is. Then - run through all the 'what if's' eg what if one morning she can't return it to the sofa position for some reason?
I'm x years younger than your mum, and have managed to yank a hamstring - there's no way I could open a sofa bed right now..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

That's the beauty of a day bed - it is 2m long so double up as a single with no yanking, and the pullout bit is on wheels so no yanking. The mattress slides straight out over the pull out bit, the only hard bit is putting the single mattress back on top of the other mattress in the morning. Really really no effort at all.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
We have one of these

It can be a bit heavy to pull in and out, but it does have the advantage of being 6ft long, and a proper mattress. Also if you can't be bothered to drop it down to being a full sized bed, it's comfortable and big enough to be able to sleep on without putting the back down (the slight slope stops you rolling off).Make £2025 in 2025
