2 Wireless ariels - 1 network

Hello Chaps & Chappettes.

I have 1 router and 1 Netgear wireless antenna.

I have a spare netgear wireless antenna. ( not yet connected )

At the front of the house - the wireless connection is fine.
At the back of the house - the connection is poor and prone to dropouts.

Question - Can I setup the spare Netgear wireless antenna to be the same network ID as the one in the front?

I would like to use my laptop anywhere in the house - and the back garden :D

Thanks in advance
Troubleatmill

do you mean antenna/router/usb or pci dongle/or wireless access point?

This is an antenna.. doesn't do much on it's own.

  • Sorry - Wireless access point.
    Thx
  • if you set up an wireless access point you need to hard wire to it to your router to send out the signal!

I'm assuming 2 antennas = 2 access points. You need to create a wireless bridge between the two access points. You may be able to do this - it depends on the make of the access points.
  • I was going to suggest a wireless bridge but hes already getting wireless drop out with his current setup and therefore wireless bridge would more than likely have the same problem which is why i suggest just wiring a access point.

Why not simply relocate the original wireless router to a better position in the house to improve overall coverage.

Yes but he could position the 2nd access point in an area before the drop out to extend the coverage
  • Just to clarify. ( forgive me if I'm being dumb )

    I have a Cisco router - 4 ports.

I have 2 Netgear Wireless Access Points.

Can I configure both Wireless Access Points - with the same network ID, security etc. - or do I have to configure as a different wireless network?

The idea being I can walk from the back of the house to the front on the same network.

( The problem is that the house is long and thin and all the walls are brick - there is no place that 1 antenna will cover ).

    Thx
    Scott

What is the model(s) of the netgear WAPs? Not all have the bridge mode.
