Very Low Mileage Insurance - Avoiding SORN Insurance

Im trying to avoid SORNING my car as its for sale so it will need a tax disc to make it easy for a buyer to drive away.

I know it needs to be insured by law now but can anyone point me towards a good company for low mileage (less than 100miles) insurance or even a 'off road and garaged' (Fire and Theft only) insurance?

I dont mind Temporary/PAYG, Monthly or Annual Insurance - but you have to take cancelation/administration costs into account.

Note: Normal renewal quote is £189 for 12 months with RAC (fully comp up to 5000miles), we called them up to try and get a laid-up zero mile insurance and was quoted £225 which is just crazy having to pay more for a whole load less.

My other option is to SORN it, (ive only just got a new 6month tax disc aswell to sell the car with). If I was to SORN it luckily I have private land to offer a test drive, however, if someone buys the car they wont be able to drive away until their insurance certificate comes through a theyll need it to re-tax the car.

This new law is really annoying me!! Hope some can help.

Thanks, hope someone can understand and help!

Maybe Martin could write an article about getting insurance like this in the eyes of private car sellers and occasional users?

BUMP TO BE NOTICED....and more details

After a few stressful hours im barely getting anywhere on this.

Apparently Adrian Flux do cheap lay up insurance which offers 'Fire and Theft' only, im not sure if it would make the vehicle appear insured on the MID just yet so i'll report back. Not open at this time so ill call in morning.

Aviva do short term motor cover but I don't know what the cost is. Why not just pay the £189 you mentioned and cancel it when the car is sold?

I would but after admin/cancelation fees I would get back less than £100 if i needed cover for 1day-1month, then less another £10 for every part month on top that I use. I think this is expensive, especially if it was to sell in the first few days of the policy it would mean i'd paid £89ish for nothing.

Ive tried aviva but 1 day is £16.05 and 28 days is £136.26 (with quotes in between for days in between). Perfectly suitable for a 1 day test drive but not really the prices im looking for considering the car will not move off private land. Thanks anyways for your help
