Digging Spike

I once borrowed a heavy metal bar about 5ft long with a spike at one end and a chisel at the other for breaking up the ground before sinking fence posts. It was also great for levering out roots. I have no idea what it is called and I would like to buy one. Anyone point me in the right direction?

I had exactly the same problem - in the end my dad found an old rusty one in the back of his workshop and lent it to me! I have no idea what they are called either, but I know exactly what you mean. TonyMMM's link is the closest I've seen online to what I used.
Edit - I think the old style ones we're thinking of were called fencing bars but my dad called it a big wrecking bar!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

I call mine a crowbar. Probably because I bought it from Machine Mart
Chisel & point crowbar
I've had it years and used it for all kinds of jobs from digging holes for fence posts to demolition. It's a very useful tool. Particularly good for breaking up concrete slabs.0
