bus charge

Options
Every week I use the bus to go down town however the price keeps changing
1 week it's £2.80 next week it's £4.40 and then it's back down to £2.80
I don't understand this because I'm going from the same stop I'm not travelling any further and I have the same type of ticket

What do the tickets say? Are they exactly the same as in the bus-stop names or codes are the same?

A similar problem often arose where I used to live. There were two main stops (with shelters) in my quite long road, each roughly the same distance from my house. Outside my house was a basic stop with just a bus stop sign on the lampost.

The ticket system only allowed the drivers to put in the main stops as the "to" and "from" points. As the boundary line for the bus charging "zones" fell half way between the main stops, if the driver put in one of the main stops it was 80p single from town, if he put the other it was £1.30. Quite a difference considering there was only 1/4 mile at most between them and they were a couple of miles out of town. Therefore, if the driver tried to charge £1.30, I'd get off at the earlier stop to save 50p even though it meant walking an extra few hundred yards.

Have you contacted the bus company to confirm the correct fare?

What does the bus driver say when you ask him to explain the discrepancy?

price and ticket availability changes at different times of the day (ie you cant get a day rover ticket before maybe 11am), are you always travelling at the same time?

I would email the bus company and ask them for the correct fare. Also the bus company in my area is actually on facebook and they have a discussion page where people can request this type of information. Perhaps your bus comany has something like that!!

The number of arguements I have had with bus drivers, who don't know their jobs, is unbelieveable. I would request my fare stage and then they would enter the wrong one. Now since I use the bus for work and have done so for over 10 years, I am pretty clued up on town boundaries and the stage numbers, so I would stand there and tell them the correct ones. They don't particularly like been told they are doing their jobs wrong. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Use First Manchester and you'll get used to drivers making up rules and fare stages.

PMSL so true, They also forget to till you that a single fare can cost more then a day ticket sometimes! I remember when stagecoach used to cost 40p from salford to manchester on the m10 now its £1.50 lol
