New carpet - it has lines - is this to be 'expected'? (carpet newbie)

I just had a new carpet fitted this morning. I've come home and noticed two lines running down the carpet. They run length to length (wall to wall) if that makes sense about 1 metre apart (the carpet is a 5m width). The carpet is a Victoria Carpets, twist. I've tried brushing the pile with my hand and hoovering the carpet but the lines are there and visible. Just taken some photos of them but not sure I can upload them here.
Is this right? I thought it would be all one smooth piece - the lines are not joins and are only about 1mm but you can sit and see them both quite clearly. They are not a different colour either.. almost looks like crease lines but very defined.
Any carpet experts thoughts really appreciated.

It is fairly common. It happens when a roll of carpet is stored under others and the weight squashes it. You're right that they are creases.
Normally they will hoover out. I had the same once and after a month or two they had completely gone.
My mum had it a few years back and insisted on the shop re-laying the carpet. She said they didn't hoover out though I think she only tried hoovering 2 or 3 times.0 -
If they run up the roll rather than accross the width of the carpet then they might be j tufts a cropping fault,no amount of hoovering will remove them.0

I have a similar line in my newly-laid carpet. The fitter pointed it out and said it was a 'pole mark' or 'pole line' and that it should disappear after a few months. Just make sure it's regularly hoovered.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0

More info here: http://www.kingsinteriors.co.uk/flooring/help-and-advice/joins-pole-marksNote: occasionally you may see a line running across a newly installed carpet, about one foot in from a wall. This line is not a seam. This mark, known as a "pole mark," results from the carpet being wrapped tightly around a cardboard tube for shipping. The mark will disappear as the carpet becomes acclimatised and is vacuumed. Extra attention to this area during vacuuming will speed the process. For more immediate results, try light steaming of the affected area.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0

Bit of a random long shot, but if you've had furniture on a carpet and the feet have flattened the pile down, it's suggested you put ice cubes in the dents to make it spring up again.... you could try a couple of ice cubes on your lines to see if that makes any difference at all. It's ice .... and easy ... so would at least be something free to try tonight.0

Thanks for that tip PN - we have just had a carpet laid in our 4th bedroom and then have had to move a load of extra furniture in there temporarily while we do up the 1st bedroom. I've been crying about all the dents there will be in our lovely new carpet. I'll try the ice cube trick - not heard that one before.0

We recently purchased some top quality carpet for our house.
Unfortunately we have 3 sets of tram lines about 1 metre apart, running across the room. They do not show up at midday in strong sunlight, but come the afternnoon and evening, theyre there all the time.
We have had both the carpet supplier and theManufacturers representative visit us and were told they would soon go. However, after 3 months, despite frequent hoovering they are still there.
How long does it take for this manifestation to disappear, 6 months?, a year?, 2 years?, Never?.
My wife is beginning to get despondant as she finds it an irritiation to be staring at it every night.:(0
