Victim of a Boiler Room Scam - ADVICE PLEASE!

He's not a troll. He is a very informed and helpful poster, albeit with the tact of an bull in a china shop.0

One off-hand post doesn't make a person bad, as one misguided investment doesn't either. Some highly regarded and prominent people have been taken in by these types of scam and it's more down to a lack of sophistication. I know that my own mother would be easy fodder for these people, and she isn't greedy in the slightest - it's just that these people don't take 'no' for an answer.
The bottom line that most likely the money is lost and gone forever and is enough for a victim to have to swallow.Never ever give your card details to anyone over the phone, and check the reputation of any company you do intend to give them to.0 -
ho, ho, ho....... that one made me laugh. I do not know or understand why bendix does it but he continues to make derisory posts where he adss absoulutely no value. One off-hand post doesn't make a person bad,....
I don't doubt that he does make some constructive posts somewhere but why he(?) feels the need to make these other demeening posts I don't know; thats why he is one of the few on my ignore list.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

Sorry for your trouble.
Can I just endorse this post. My father in law was the victim of a boiler room scam and they WILL come back. These criminals set up very professional websites with credible names and just won't be shaken off.
Thankfully to date my FIL hasn't wasted any more money on these crooks.
As mentioned, they will come back with the same story0 -

I recall a few months ago 'Bendix' said he was fed up with the UK and was leaving - I think he went to Thailand, though I wondered whether he was UK native at all in the first place, perhaps merely here for the combination of high earnings/low tax while it lasted - and then off to the next place.
There was a long thread running on it I think in the Economy/house prices board......some of the replies as you can imagine being less than complimentary.
I never thought he would move to somewhere like France (Wealth tax) or the Scandanavian Countries (high income tax) as an overiding interest in paying less tax seemed to be theme which cropped up often in his posts. I often wondered how he thought the Scandanavian countries even existed.
I can't figure him out - often sensible replies on MSE but seemingly with a contempt for those less blessed than him with either luck or intelligence or background; a rootless individual not tied to any place, someone who I could never see helping out as some local volunteer group, using his background to say be their treasurer etc and putting in years of work.
A high earning individual yet someone who has time to post umpteen thousand times on MSE............0 -
I suppose it depends on your viewpoint.
My idea is that if the OP asks for advice, and someone posts that they are stupid and greedy, thats not advice, thats trolling.
Regardless of how long you have been signed up or how many other great posts you have made.
Urban dictionary.com:
1. trolling
Being a !!!!! on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.
Guy: "I just found the coolest ninja pencil in existence."
Other Guy: "I just found the most !!!!!! thread in existence."
But its a matter of opinion, hey.0 -
I mean, had the OP asked for sympathy, I might understand a tirade like that. But he/she didn't.0
