    I'm lost with all the mention of shellac and gelish and am no manicurist (could you guess?) However my nails are strong, healthy and seemingly grow overnight.

    My routine - if you could call it that;

    I file from the side towards the middle, not a sawing motion just one direction at a time. With a 2 sided metal file, finishing with the finer side.
    If I get the slightest tear, I either try to file it down immediately...or pick at it till the nail's short.
    For a mild french polished look I paint the white underneath the nail, then just pink or nude on the front of the nail itself, means you get a natural brightening of the nail rather than that stark artificial look.

    Also, is there something a bit less startling white than french polish ? French polish = artificial nails in my head when I see someone with it. Not that it doesnt look nice, I just think its not such a good look in my sixties! Is there something called American French or similar - I think its not so white? Just looking for something subtle! !

    Definitely! I also think that bright white ends = artificial nails. On the rare occasions I have a french type polish I have a creamy white painted on the tips which looks very natural indeed.
  • You can get "less bright" whites depending on your nail tech, that tends to be with acrylic or gels though - I know Shellac are coming out with a creamier white later on this month which I personally would prefer for french tips. If you're not mad keen on french tips you could always get a different colour Shellac - one of the neutrals like Beau or Cocoa.

    Wow, where do you live? Shellac is around the £20 mark where I am. It is more if you want a full manicure with it every time though, which I don't but even then, not £40.

    I'm in Berkshire but the places which do it where I found price lists are a distance away.

    I have found someone mobile who I will contact to see how much they charge as it could be good for the interim while the damage grows out.

    I've been a bit busy this week and haven't pulled my finger out and done much research this week! Haha!

    I do like the idea of painting under the tip of the nail to brighten them up. That could be a good quick fix up for when (if) my nails grow to a decent length - plus you can get pens to do the white tips which might be easier than painting underneath. :)

    Where do you buy Nailtiques from please.

    this is the one I bought and they sent a bottle of oil with it, which is good for moisturising and for making polish dry quicker.

    I find it fantastic, as I mentioned earlier, I have very long, strong nails now, like claws :D and it only took about a week to see pretty drastic improvement.

    I'm a nail envy girl myself ,,, couldn't get on with nailtiques. It so depends on your nails.

    Good luck. Keep em short well groomed and moisturise at all times x

    I didn't get on with nail envy at all, found it just peeled off my nails. Funny how nails react differently to things.
