Nail recovery after acrylics.

It took me years to do it but finally I have nice nails,
I used to go and get the acrylics done every four weeks or so, infilled at the back till they grew out, I kept having the infill put on to my natural nails and eventually after about 6 months i had the infill soaked off and then had a manicure, my own nails had strengthened under neath and they looked absolutely brilliant. I was a nail biter till my md forties. I can only say what worked for me.
Good luckmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I now have strong nails which are very long (my choice) and haven't broken one since I've started using it.
I got it from amazon, I think it was around £15 but sooooo worth it!
I'll second this. Nailtiques formula 2 is my hero product for nails. I used to use Nail Envy, which is very good, but Nailtiques knocks spots off it.0 -

If they still do it I can thoroughly recommend a pinkish gel/jelly stuff they used to do - a bit similar to Vaseline in consistency. You massage it in to your nail each night. It's good stuff.
yes, I bought this over the web if you use the search facility on this webforum you will come up with the posting - it may be that Amazon do it too. I have been pleased in that it makes nails super clean and good for cuticles but they have changed it slightly at some point becuase Ican remember it soap-ing up a bit when I used it before with a bit of cotton wool and warm water after rubbing in - it doesnt do that any more. Dont think now I would buy it again.
I think the main thing about a hardener is to makee sure u re- apply whenever startsto come off at tips I do mine every two days. And lots of hand/cuticle cream. At first no real progress but have now managed to sort out one hand the other still not brilliant, breaks more. I like Miracle cure as it doenst make nails so haard that when they do snap its low down and painful.
I havent had acrylics just nails that break peel etc. Its consistency of approach that matters. Once a little bit more sorted I am going to try Gellish or Shellac as that wont harm nails and they should not break easily. But you may not need that you more than likely just have nails spoilt by the acyrilics that you have got to nurse back to health
Has anyone tried nail eat and nail drink? That gets good reviews on Amazon. I wondered if you could use both together as my nails seem to suffer from all the things that both are for.0 -

I used to use Nail Eat & Drink years ago, in the days when QVC used to sell it. It was good but I think there are better products nowadays. The idea was that you would vary which bottle you used according to what your nails needed (either strength or moisture). I found I always ended up with lots of Drink left over once all the Eat had been used up,
I wouldn't switch back to it now to be honest, I prefer Nail Envy or Nailtiques, but everyone's nails are different. You need to find the product that suits your nails best.0 -

thanks thats worth knowing about Nail Eat and Drink.
Do Nail Envy and Nailtiques work in same way, are they both ones that paint on like a varnish? I have been using Sally Hanson Miracle Cure but might be nice to try something else. What do people think - between Nail Envy and Nailtiques?0 -
Jariya - i am the same as you.
I have my infills dones every too weeks without fail and hate the fact i am tied to this more than worrying about the price.
But i love having neat; nice looking nails. I have plump hands and without nails i have sausage fingers.
But; despite trying a few times i always got back to the acrylics as my nails are such poor quality and never grown even with product. I am quite rough on my nails (typing etc) and natural nails will spilt so badly they hurt. I do have low thyroid; and am aneamic so this might not help.I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
Where do you buy Nailtiques from please.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I didn't get a chance for a proper look around today so I'll be having a catch up on it this week.0 -

Yes you do just paint them on like varnish. I use them as a base coat.
They're both excellent IMO. For my nails Nailtiques Formula 2 is better, but that's not to say Nail Envy is inferior. Like I said earlier, it depends what your nails need. There are different formulas available in each brand, e.g. for soft/peeling nails, dry/brittle nails etc.
McKneff, I usually get my Nailtiques from ebay or Amazon. Not sure whether you can get it in any shops.0 -
As a nail tech I would advise shellac. I get a lot of clients who want to stop wearing enhancements but hate their nails so they opt for Shellac.
Its a power polish which lasts a minimum of 2 weeks. Its protects the nail and gives a brilliant, lasting shine. No buffing is required so it doesn't harm the natural nail.
Teamed with solar oil it should improve your nails in no time. I know mine grow like wildfire when I wear Shellac and they no longer break. Lots of colour combinations too.
