I am dubious about keeping salad for more than two days because it can develop listeriaBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

You will need to rip up your lettuce cos if you use a knife it will go brown - it reacts with the metal I think!
My mum always puts a damp piece kitchen roll in with saved salad says it keeps it moist - don't know if it works tho, I'm not organised enough to prepare my salad lol!Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

What if it's been in a ship for a week, a warehouse for a week and on Tesco's shelves for 3 days, will another 3 days in the fridge really matter?0 -

Exactly - always thought the Listeria problem would really only occur with that bagged lettuce you can buy (something to do with it being washed!?)0 -
The trouble is, once you've cut into something, it's going to start to deteriorate. I wouldn't have thought tomatoes or cucumber would last more than a couple of days once sliced whatever container they're in.
As another posted said, the lettuce will go brown if cut with a knife, but Lakeland sell a plastic knife for cutting lettuce, so that might be worth a try.0 -
Hi scriblesvurt,
As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to an existing thread with lots of ideas on keeping salad items fresh.
