Share transfer help

Hi

i have some shares with hbos from when they changed to a bank held at computershare, but i want to move them to another broker, preferably self trade. Can i do this as im not sure if computershare is a broker, as if i want to deal my shares i have to use hbos service

however i can transfer them to hbos, and then selftrade but that costs me £15

Can i go straight from computershare to selftrade

do i use the Dealing account transfer form on selftrade to do it too?

thanks for any help

Computershare is the registrar. They maintain the share register and administer functions such as dividend payment on behalf of the company. They are not a broker.

Are they held in certificate form?
If so you should be able to send the certificate to self trade and once credited to your account be ready to sell them.
If they are in crest i believe you can also arrange a transfer free of charge, though i have not tried it myself.

The best way to move your shares from Computershare to Selftrade is to ask Computershare to send you a share certificate for your holding.

As you've discovered, Computershare normally charge around £15 for this.

Then, once you have the share certificate fill in the CREST Transfer form on Selftrade's website and send it to them, with the share certificate.

    Two things to note:

    a) If you are not already a Selftrade customer, you can be referred to them and get some money. Send me a PM if interested in more details.

    b) Selftrade have a policy of refunding charges that other brokers make to transfer shares to them - so should refund the charge that Computershare make to send you the share certificate as long as you send some proof of paying the charge to them. Selftrade can advise on exactly what proof they require..
