I requested a map search enquiry from this site on 6th Aug which is supposed to be a one hour service for most enquiries. On 9th Aug having heard nothing I emailed them to ask if there was a problem and then 23rd Aug emailed their complaints dept ........still no response ...yet the fee (£34.95) was taken on the 9th!!!! Any ideas for next course of action welcome

Well firstly you are actually using a "service company" rather than the official source which is available to the public. The official Land Registry site can be found here : https://www.landregistry.gov.uk/wps/portal/Property_Search. If they have it (and they should on most transactions) then the plan is around £4.

Secondly I assume you paid via credit card? If you are failing to get a response I would do a chargeback. At this point I would suggest you request a refund from them and tell them you will do a charge back if you don't receive confirmation within 7 days.
  • Thanks for that Evilm. I did stupidly think it was the official land registry site initially & was really pleased with the map enquiry service as we don't have an address for the land involved so seemed the ideal method of obtaining the info we need. It's frustrating as there are only emails in the "contact us" section so unable to speak to someone directly about this and they are not answering any mails. Think I will follow your advice re the chargeback & maybe give the "official" land registry a call for advice on obtaining info on land with no address available.
  • Well i fell victim to :mad:Land-reg.co.uk :mad:a couple of weeks ago. it cost me 30.00, for something i could of got from land registry.gov, for a fraction of the price. As i said my own fault.
What was even worse, there terms say it will be delivered in one hour, forget it. The small print says you have to cancel within three minutes and refunds are not available, if your property is not registered.

    Distance Selling Regulations
Our service is provided within a period of less than 7 working days after receipt of your order and therefore any right to a "cooling-off" period under The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 SI 2000/2334 does not apply. In the event that you would like to cancel your order with us you must do so before we begin to process it by emailing us atorders@Land-Reg.co.uk; noting that we begin to process orders within 2 – 3 minutes of receiving them.

I'm sure the above is not legal. To make it worse Paypal who are their merchant, will not support you getting a refund as it is classed as a service. So forget Paypal buyer protection, it doesn't exist.

In fact Ive dealt with Paypal  for years and if i was the government, id bring them into line. They operate outside of the UK and are far too intrusive, when they don't need to be.

i now have to wait for CC card company to charge-back thankfully i used barclaycard.

    DO NOT USE LAND-REG.CO.UK

Thier site has been reported to goolge today and hopefully will be off line soon.

Who are 'goolge' and what powers do they have to take sites off line?
  • All i can say is i was searching for land registry information, was presented with Land-Reg.co.uk with official looking logos etc and believed the charges were as dictated by Land Registry. This would'nt be so bad but they did not supply information other than the title deed requested. I paid also for covenants, title plan, easements and so on and received none of these. of course all attempts to contact them do NOT RECEIVE ANY REPLY:mad:. I have put the transaction in dispute with Paypal on the basis goods requested have been supplied incomplete. Will wait and see what Paypal do but if they do nothing i will not be using Paypal to buy anything in future so their loss ultimately if we all do the same.

I assume you mean GOOGLE., But they have no powers to take any site down.

LAND-REG.CO.UK are not doing anything ILLEGAL. you pay then for a service and get the information ordered.

Its like the paid sites for the EHIC cards, when you get these free for the NHS,
