Adult dependants grant?

I am about to start my second year of a part time HNC course. My hubby receives - is,dla and ct benefit and I get ca. My question is wether I would qualify for the ADG? We live in Wales and it is allowed for part time here, When I did a course with the OU (just one year) I wasn't even given PLA and yet when I started last year at college I did receive it! My child is now no longer dependent on me so I know I won't get this and last year my hubby was also a part time student but this year he is not. What I don't understand though is a few women on my course have got it and thier hubby's work full time!!

Yes, you can get an Adult Dependent's Grant as a part time student. Does your hubby have any financial committments? If so this can bolster your case if you can prove evidence of this, even more so if you have to pay them or contribute to them You will need to send in proof of these such as statements etc.
Remember to some extent the benefits your hubby gets is unimportant - it's more about evidencing that he is financially dependant on you that matters. You can apply via your online account with Student Finance England.
The grant will count as income when DWP assess your entitlement to benefits, however, so under certain circumstances it could affect any benefits that you get.I have worked at HSBC Bank in various departments both customer facing and process-related for six years. However, any advice given is my own.0 -
Thanx for the reply. I still dont understand what they mean by dependent on me financialy! If someones hubby works then how are they dependent? We pool our money to pay mortgage etc. so I just dont get the criteria. Also if this is a grant then how can it be classed as income for benefit reasons?0
