Ski-ing Resorts Using Eurostar Ski Train - Which one is best for families??

We have decided to go ski-ing next January travelling by the Eurostar Ski Train. We only want a short transfer and are looking at staying at one of the following resorts:

Les Arcs,
Sainte-Foy
Val D'Isere
Tignes
Meribel
La Tania

We are a family of 4, myself and intermediate, dh a novice, dd6 and ds4 who have never skied before. Which resort would you recommend for families and if you could recommend accommodation that would be great.

i can only speak of Val d'isere and tigne as I have not been to the others but they are not far from bourg st'Moritz where the train ends. you can get a coach up from there.

Val & Tigne are linked on one ski pass, which makes the resort huge. you can literally not ski the same area more than once in a week its that vast.

But it also has a great nursery area (small lifts for classes and beginners). Its in the cente of Val and there are hotels backing onto it so you can chill out whilst the skiers are learning.

one thing though, its very expensive to eat and drink out in Val.

  • Les Arcs sits just above Bourg St Maurice and the train will drop you off within walking distance of the funicular that takes you up to the resort.

  • Hi we are owners of two apartments in Les Coches at the centre of the Paradiski (la Plagne & Les Arcs) ski area we have just spent 1 month renovating the 2-4 person apartments which are located 100 meters from the lift system.

The area is, in my view (someone who does 7 weeks skiing per year) offers some of the best and most varied skiing and boarding in the world.

We often travel by Eurostar and the train stops at a station called Landry 5 km before bourg st maurice. There is a local bus that takes you directly to Les Coches and costs around 6euros each. This transfer takes about 10mins!!

I cannot recommend Les Coches or the area highly enough if you want pics please let us know or if are interested in renting the apartments please contact me with dates and I can provide details.

  • Hi,

I work for a ski travel agency - we are actually now one of the UK's largest, specialising in catered chalet holidays and work with all operators.

We get many exclusive deals, early season discounts, lift pass offers, etc. and can recommend good deals for next Jan.

Best thing to do is shop around for prices but (and I would say this) take a look at our website and call us with any questions:

    http://www.catered-chalet-holidays.co.uk.

I wouldn't recommend Val d'Isere for a beginner, there are no easy runs back into resort so beginners have to go up high to get good easy runs, La Plagne is good (where I learnt to ski!) and Meribel.

Feel free to email me if you want any advice.

    Cheers,

    Jonathan
