    Pickfords are expensive.

Sure someone with specific recommendations in S Wales will be along but check out ngrs.co.uk (National Guild of Removers and Storers) and bar.co.uk (British Association of Removers). On referenceline.com , Masons Moving Group seem well rated.

    Cheers

Sounds an average quote for Pickfords. They're pricy. We used them last time, but only because it was on expenses! Next time, we'll use a local firm and estimate we'll save between a third and a half.

We moved from Cardiff to Bath last year and used Move Cab. They were very good and the quote for pretty much the same as your requirements was under £600

    Movecab Price: £485 + VAT
    Packing service: £155 + VAT

The only niggle was that they did another job on the way home (they went to help load a piano into a van for another team) and this took them longer than expected, so they didn't get to the new house until later in the day.

The thing is that with removals you tend to get what you pay for if you're moving a fair amount of stuff. Firstly there's packing stuff properly, transporting it safely and then unpacking it and putting it in the right rooms. There's also the insurance in case anything is damaged or broken. It's a one-off so I would say it's better to get it done properly.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion!
  • That sounds obscene!

I moved last year about 20 miles (3 bed to 3 bed - north west Eng)

Company provided 2 vans and 2 men to do all the lifting and loading (I had packed) - they waited around for most of the day as it was late when we got the keys.

Price was £250 - fantastic for the vans/fuel/labour! Plus gave them £10 each tip for their hard work.

Phone round some local companies I am sure you will save yourself a fortune.
  • Try entering some of your details into one of the comparison websites to see how the quotes compare, that's how I found my local company.

Can't remember which I used but here are a couple of examples:
