Roof bars -Help

Bought roof bars for my OH to allow us to transport large items. They arrived and don't know how they attach and ebay trader is less than helpful. Just keeps repeating same question about "Does it have the existing roof bar rails on the car?" and offering no guidance about what to do. It is a basic meriva that has not been altered. Can anyone help as I have bought these and still need to pay delivery for DIY materials.

Thanks for your help

    Does it have roof rails?

It's a small pic but by the look of it they lock onto the rails.

Is it a basic Meriva with roof rails already fitted, running back to front along the car, or is it a flat roof with nothing at all?

There are two types of roof bar fixings - one is for cars with roof rails, those clamp to the rails on the car. The other type is for plain roofs and clamp to the side of the car itself.

That is why you are being asked if you have roof rails, as the e-bay ones are for cars with roof rails, if you haven't got roof rails you need the other type.

The problem is that I don't know what roof rails are. There is a grey plastic section down both sides of the roof. The car is a meriva life basic model.

have a look at that grey plastic section and see if theres 2 places on each side with pieces built into the plastic which may be spring loaded.(try pushing down with your finger) if so thats where your roof rack attaches.
counting down the time I got left.:beer:

    It won't fit.
If your car doen't have roof rails, like this zafira, (the bar on top)

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-VAUXHALL-ZAFIRA-ELEGANCE-16V-GREY-/250877556332?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a6977b66c

the roofbars you have bought won't fit.
Send them back for a refund, and buy a roof rack for a Meriva without roof bars

    like these

I'm not saying these will fit your car, I don't know the year etc, but you probably need ones that have their own legs onto the roof

If you don't know, how do you expect the seller too whether or not your car has them? However they do offer some support did you not ask before buying?

"If you have any queries on this or any of our other auctions please do not hesitate to contact us on 01928 581284. Please telephone rather than email as it may take us up to 3 days to reply due to the amount of emails received."

Roof bars are metal that stand proud above the roof line, plastic strip are not roof bars. So mikey72's third link is probably what you want.
