Debit card payment/Tesco rant!

Options
Beware peeps!
Apparently When you pay by debit card your bank puts the money aside (allocates) for the vendor to take the money for 5 days from the date of the transaction- nothing wrong with that- we all know that.
However if they do not collect the m oney within that time o=your bank- in my case Scalifax/Bank of Scotland- they let the money go back into your account.
However the vendor can go and call the money out of your account at any time for the next 6 months:eek::eek::eek:
In my case £30.10 paid for petrol on 23 July has only been taken out on 23 August- cue phone call to bnk to say i never used my cad for the last week- only to be told this nonsense!:mad::mad:
In future i shall only use cash! Especially at tatcos!:mad::mad:

It's a pain I agree. But I guess the onus is on you to check your statements.

I cant say ive noticed a payment is taken a month after the card was used to buy the goods, i even use tesco and the money is taken pretty much straight away. Nothing wrong with what they do though.

If the money wasnt taken at the time, then surely its just in the account waiting to be taken. If you've spent it and not realised its nobodies fault but your own.

Its also 6 years not 6 months to take the payment.

But surely they cannot store your details for 6 years? for 1 transaction?

Agreed- it is my problem- and i am not in any way saying i don't want them to take the money- i am just annoyed that this has happened, where in the past- they take their money in time with no problems. Also i just got my statement- hence the annoyance!
    also...6 years????

    Not entirely correct.

The original transaction can be processed at any point up to 6 months after the initial transaction took place. After 6 months and up to 6 years, they can demand payment for the transaction, but they cannot use the original transaction details...
