Parking at Newquay Bay - Parking eye warning

Options
Thought i'd write a warning for other Newquay visitors. Last month I parked at Newquay bay. I paid £7.20 for a full days parking after entering my car reg details into the machine and displaying my ticket. 10 days after arriving home I received a letter from Parking eye demanding £90 which rises to £120 after 2 weeks. Now I'd already cleaned out the car on the weekend of our return so was well and truely peeved. I knew I had paid and displayed. Lucky for me I didnt do a very good job and under the drivers seat was my ticket!!! funnily enough 9 days later a second letter arrived demanding money before the first letter had even run out!! then a third letter from a 'debt collection' company arrived, which i also ignored that was 4 weeks ago.

Long story short these cowboys are trying to con people out of their hard earned money, even if you have a ticket, they dont care. If you get a letter, ignore it, dont contact them, then use the letters to make fun paper planes!!!:rotfl:

  • You are absolutely correct. There have been numerous instances of PPC's trying to con people out of money regardless of whether the driver has paid for a ticket or not. That is of no interest to them, they are only interested in getting your money through intimidation.

Well done for ignoring them and for spreading the word.

This is of course the biggest scam going for PPC land ..they say you were not displaying ..but what evidence do they actually have ..none..so they presume that if they go to court their word against yours will prevail ...I'd like to see them argue that in court .

They will say it is in your interests to falsely claim you displayed BUT you could equally argue it is very much in their interests to falsely claim that you did not !!
As long as you have a ticket proving you paid then there is no loss / damages to the landowner so what exactly are Parking Eye trying to claim ???

Councils are known to do this as well. My other half got a "failing to display" penalty by post from our council. Of course she had paid and displayed but then an advertising leaflet was put under her windscreen wiper which obscured the view of the ticket ..needless to say a couple of strongly worded letters to the council and they backed down. Would have been embarrassing for them to explain how lazy and incompetent their CEO was ..so much so that he/she could not be arsed to look in the side window for the ticket or even remove the offending flyer !!

But of course it's all about managing parking and enforcing the proper charges ...not about PROFIT ..yeah right !

But the point is that this is a PPC - so can be safely be ignored ...

You probably didn't enter your registration number into the machine "correctly"

Either that or Parking Spy's wonderful CCTV set-up fails once more
  • I have no idea what went wrong with the system. The first letter stated I had been fined for "overstaying the allotted time OR failing to pay and display" they couldnt even tell me which one I had violated! !!!!!!? which one was it? This company just does not care, I paid my money, the reg was correct and it clearly stuck on the window (which you can even see on the photo they sent me of my hubby driving out!!) I just cant believe companies like this are allowed to operate. Thank god for MSE and the web, if an IT phob unfamiliar with the www got this "fine" it would scare the wits out of them. Bas***ds!!
