Hi all,
I have Sky BB max and i was told by sky i would get speeds of 13mb (cause thats what my line can handle) however all the BB speed tests i try come out with just over 6mb, how do i check Line Attenuation & Noise Margin and how can i improve the speed?
Thanks

Did you not see the word "upto" before the 13Meg
The attenuation details can be found in the router config pages, and there is little you can do about the speed.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
There was never an upto with the 13 meg, it has a max of UPTO 16 meg which i was told i could not get as the line only handles 13 and i should never get less than 12!!!
How do i get into the router config page?:beer:0 -
http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1
It clearly says "up to" next to all their products.

upto 16Meg, could mean 1 meg, it depends how far you are from the exchange, and how congested the network is.
The 13 is probably your max sync speed, which is different to you max download speed.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Got ya, if thats the case an i can only get 6 meg im going to drop my package to the mid as i will be using it less than their limits during the month:beer:0

You will need the user name and password to log into your router.
ie admin, password is sky.
Its possible that if you are connected to an extension that this is increasing the noise on your connection. Try connecting directly to the test connector on your mater socket.
A useful router monitor program is to be found here https://www.vwlowen.co.ukThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
My details are:
Speed 7613 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 33.5 db 18.7 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 12.0 db
are the line attenuation and Noise Margin results normal?:beer:0 -
I'm on the mid package, my stats at the moment are:
Mon 08 Jan 2007 19:08:08
Rx-Noise= 9.3
Tx-Noise= 24.5
Rx-Sync= 8190
Tx-Sync= 397
My line attenuation is 45db.
The router will sync at a given speed with a noise margin of around 6-7db, so to go any faster you need to improve it.
Have you tried moving your connection?
I improved my noise margin by over 6db by removing the bell wires from the extension wiring as detailed here http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.phpThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
