Home and work networking

I use my laptop computer on a home and work network. When at work, I need to connect using a specific IP adress and DNS server. This then means that I am unable to access my home wireless network. If I remove the IP settings, everything works fine.
Is there any way of setting things up so that I can access both networks easily?
Many thanks.

Open the Properties of the network adaptor, select Internet Protocol and open its properties. Then select the 'Alternative Configuration' panel, and input the fixed details for work use.0

i assume when your at work you dont connect wirelessly?
if you are using the same network card in both instances, you'll probably need a piece of software to manage your various connection profiles (netswitcher was one i was using a few years ago)
if your connecting in the office by ethernet, and at home by wireless, theres no reason that the configuration your describing shouldnt work (i dont think anyway!)0 -
I may be being dim, but I cannot find an "alternative configuration" panel on my adaptor.
I connect wirelessly at work, so I may have to look into software. Does anyone know of any free software that does the trick?0 -
start > settings > network connections > select 'wireless network connection' right click and select properties > scroll down the options box on the general tab, highlight 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click the properties button > the second tab at the top is 'Alternate Configuration' click the user configured radio button & input your work IP etc network settings. Then set the general tab network settings to obtain automatically.
Either reboot or release and renew your ipaddress from the command prompt, and hey presto you should find it does what you need it to.0 -

I looked at my connections as you suggestions. There is no alternate configurations tab on my wireless adaptor - only my ethernet one.0 -
As a caveat to this, I have found a program called netswitch free from https://www.download.com, which saves all the IP and proxy settings and allows me to change my settings at a touch of a button.0
