Scrapping car and cashing in tax
Hi, my current car is mot'd till the 29th of this month and my insurance is up on the same day.
so my plan was to scrap the car on the 29th and send away my tax disc on the same day.
As its close to the end of the month is there a chance I will miss out on a month tax cash back if the dvla recieve it and its on the 1st?
if anyone knows a definate answer It would be much appreciated.
Thanks

As long as it is posted on or before the last day of the month you will get the full refund (less 10% handling IIRC for 6 month tax discs)
If you are concerned about it sitting in a postbox you could always take it to the po counter and get a certificate of posting proof that you posted on or before the last day0 -

Yep, good advice,:TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
You can also fill out the form online so it is registered with the DVLA.
Then all you need to do is print it off and stick the disc to it.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
It should also be mentioned, that the car needs to be SORN registered.0

why do you need to sorn it if it is scrapped?0

It's the only option.
The law says 'insured or sorn'ed', even if it's on your own drive in bits, or in a scrapyard. The job of the registered keeper unless it's a company car maybe.0 -
When a vehicle is scrapped, as long as it is a registered scrapyard, they give you a 'Certificate of Destruction' and send notification to DVLA, who then have no further interest in the vehicle as it no longer exists.0

Or scrapped. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I scrapped my car earlier this year - the scrapyard notified the DVLA electronically so the car was removed from my ownership as soon as it arrived at the scrapyard. I sent off the tax disc shortly afterwards.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0
