Question for plumbers/heating engineers

I've just had my boiler replaced...

They used plastic for all the pipe-work, including the gas.

I was under the impression plastic can be used for water only, and the gas supply pipe should be copper?

Can anyone shed any light?

Cheers...

I don't know of any plastic pipe rated for gas, and the tails from the boiler should be copper for the first metre.
  • Turn off the gas at the meter IMMEDIATELY. This is a dangerous installation and MUST be put right before using it again. In addition, please contact Gas Safe Register on 0800 408 5500 and report the person that carried out the work. They are probably operating illegally, if not they need to lose their license.

Turn the gas off at the meter with the Emergency Control Valve.
Call Gas Safe Register at 0800 408 5500 from 9.00 in the morning and request an emergency inspection.

    Are you sure...???
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Are you sure its not plastic coated copper pipe?

If memory serves, they updated my gas supply around 15 years ago with a yellow plastic pipe, from the pavement to the meter. They did protect it with a metal tube from the meter down to ground, but when we dug up the drive, we could see a section of yellow plastic pipe.

In fact, we changed the mains water supply from lead to 22mm plastic, and all they did was to bury the blue plastic pipe, with no protection around it.

    And your point is?
  • As far as Iam aware, the pipe from the meter to the actual boiler has to be Copper. The only bit which should be plastic is from the road to the meter which should be yellow (Im sure you've seen people doing the work on the roads) So I must agree with everyone whos advised it is dangerous. Please get this sorted soon =)
