Local car insurance nightmare!!

Hi Guys,

Just got my renewal quote for insurance. Last year I paid £340 but this year it has rocketed to £600!! I did unfortunately have a minor bump last year (my fault) which is probably playing a part in this as its still unresolved. Anyone recommend a decent local company who are priced competitively? Many thanks in advance folks...... :)

Does it have to be local? I had my renewal through from Admiral (multi-car policy but a pending divorce scuppered that option at renewal). They were looking close to £600. Phoned Abbey who brought it down by around £50. Direct Line won me over even with some extras lumped on top such as a guaranteed like-for-like hire car should I be in an accident. A normal hire car could only be guaranteed to be at least a 1litre hatchback. With 2 young kids, car seats, buggy/pram etc that's no good to me so if something goes wrong I'll have an MPV instead.
  • I have never found local insurers to be competitive. Try www.directline.com. I'm sure they will be a lot cheaper. :)

Direct Line for me too, but I know a couple of people who had high quotes from them due to accidents in the last couple of years so good luck.

Go direct to the insurer, not thru a broker.Last year I was insured with Axa thru Abbey.I was paying £437 a year. This year by going direct to Axa,I'm paying £270 a year fully comp.
