Santander or First Direct?

I switched to FD a bit less than a year or so ago, so things may have changed since then. But at that point you definitely did have to go through the account switching process to get the £100 incentive.
No, you didn't. If you wanted to claim the £100 for *leaving* within a year, one of the requirements was that you had used the switching service - but the joining bonus never had that requirement.
See this thread and this page with FD terms and conditions.0 -

I did the A&L £100 + cashback, then closed after a year or so, then opened 3 months later with Santander. A&L were part of Santander when I closed the account.
In fact, I like the Santander 5% on the £2500 for 12 months, so when that's up, I may close and re-open after 3 months in a year (if it's all still available, of course).
I can afford (Ha Ha) to do both the Santander and First Direct deposit requirements by rotating money through both accounts over the month. (If FD will accept me, of course).
are you sure you can just rotate money through FD, i.e have you done this successfully as I called them to try and open that account recently and they said 1500 had to be paid in each month via BACS rather than just as a transfer from another account
maybe i'm missing something and if you just made sure you were making a payment from one ac to another as a bacs payment rather than a faster payment this would work?
thanks in advance0 -

Apologies, but I've said in my previous posts that I had yet to apply for the First Direct account, so I don't actually know. Thanks for this as that will be impossible for me.
I got it from Martin's link to the First Direct comments on his pages:
"Most accounts require you to deposit a certain amount every month. This needn't stay in the account, nor must you actually be in credit, it just has to be paid in.
In effect this sets a minimum earnings threshold. The following are the most common equivalences...- £500/month pay-in = a pre-tax annual salary of at least £6,050.
- £1,000/month pay-in = a pre-tax annual salary of at least £14,200.
- £1,500/month pay-in = a pre-tax annual salary of at least £23,100."
How would you do a BACS payment instead of a normal transfer from another account?
Thanks for the info.0 -

Sorry I didn't realise you didn't actually have the offer yet.
I don't know how you would a make a BACS payment! Hopefully someone on here can help! Maybe you need a business account?
My current work (soon to be old work) always pays me via a faster payment so even that prob wouldnt count for me!?
The extra £25 ontop of the usual £100 for switching to FD finishes tomorrow so would be good if we could figure this out & get it opened today if its going to be possible!0 -

Hi
I opened this account last week- I transfer the money from another account and there is no need to get your salary paid in, as long as it is 1,500 at least.
I think you still get the £100 bonus (but I didn't switch any D/D or S/O so I don't think I qualify for that one). But you can certainly pay from another bank account. Call them and ask- they are delightful on the phone, really good customer service. They got my acount up and running in fine minutes. I don;t think I will be leaving them, even with the £100 incentive. A&L on the other hand...already thinking of closing the account once my regular saver stops paying well...0 -

Thanks for this, can you confirm if you have received the £100 (or £125) incentive for opening the account yet though? I'm still a see bit unsure as when I initially made enquiries the person at FD said it couldn't be done via a transfer from another ac and it had to be paid in as a BACS payment.0 -
Sorry to double post but can anyone please confirm if the extra £25 incentive is available in addition to the £100 if you do so via money supermarket as I can't seem to find any trace of it anywhere now?0

Hi Laurenzo
yes, the £25 is for using moneysupermarket.
And you know what, even if they didn't offer the incentive, I would go with them, their customer service is just superb.
Go to the Moneysupermarket website and take it from there, it should be signposted...0 -
Hi, just a bit of warning, be careful of Santander so called offer, I switched to them from Natwest to expect the same level of banking with Santander and receive the bank swap money via online. Only for them to accept my application, but used a different account that the swap didnt apply to that account, which mean I wasnt able to be received the money! I wasnt impressed and complained to them and the only response was they couldnt do anything about it!:mad:
So, just check with them which account they are going to offer you.
ps: by the way, if you use the money transfer it is a 3-4 days transfer if its not a Santander account!
