Overpayment of SAAS Bursary/Harper Macleod LLP

Options
Hi, I am looking for a bit of advice on a debt that I have/had.

In 2005 I was given a bursary by SAAS, however in 2006/2007 I was told that SAAS had made a mistake ( they had read my parents P60 wrongly (even though I had written down the correct figures) ). SAAS asked for this money back at the time however as I was still had Uni they said they would wait until I had graduated to pay this back. I was told at the time it would just go onto my other uni debt and be paid back once I earned over the threshold. I assumed this would be straight out my wages. A few months ago I received a letter asking for this money. I phoned SAAS and said that as far as I knew this was just being added onto my student loan debt. They told me that this would never happen and that I needed to pay up.

I stupidly dismissed this debt and today was issued with a court date. In a panic I phoned Harper MacLeod LLP who are dealing with this debt and was told the only way to stop this ccj was to pay £1681 + £200 legal fees today. I paid this sum over the phone and I am now left with a big dent out my house deposit (hoping to get a mortgage next month).

Is there anything I can do about this?

Sorry for the long post... i am just gutted that I am in this situation
