Help with War Bonds, Stocks and Shares after a Death..please Help

Hi,
This is my first post and probably in the wrong area but i have looked and looked but didn't know where to put it.. I need some help.. right i'll cut a very long story short..
from my great great granny, stocks, shares and bonds have been passed down the line.. lots have been sold on and when they got to my mum she never bothered going through the box as she presumed they were all old and not worth anything,. my mum has passed on and now the tin box is mine.. i'm too curious for my own good so being told that if you have the certificate and its not stamped or punched or marked as paid.. i should find out about them so..

i have listed them all photocopied everything and theres 100's - i have been in touch with the Computershare and they want £150 per company?! now i'm not in a position to pay this so i am going to write and trace them myself.. company to company but my main stumbling block is the War Stock and bonds, from 1917, i have been told by the Guilts dept they can not go that far back, i have 4 certificates for £1000 each, has anyone got any suggestions? i thought about photocopying them and writing to the Bank of England?.. any help on any of my searching is appreciated..

Thanks for pointing that out, i applied to computershare about the shares as i have mentioned, but they passed me on me someone else for the war stock and they could not help.. thats why i thought i'd ask for any info or experiences other people might have had.. x

All those misguided patriotic people in 1917 trustingly parting with their savings to a swindling government!
My grandfather's £500 would have bought a handsome house in 1917. Now it's not worth the bother of trying to find out how to sell the paper.

Apoligises on checking all my paperwork it is another Registrars Company that has quoted me £150, however I have now been intouch with Computershare and the Bank of England.. and had 2 days of tracing and trying to find out any information I can online, which has been very interesting.. I will keep you informed of what happens. x
