first off, are all your network card drivers (ethernet and wifi) up-to-date ??? Do not use netgear software to run your wifi connection, use windows zero config. The IP address looks wrong - pretty much all d-link routers use 192.168.x.y so your machine's ip addy should be in the same format. what's the address of your router's login page? check on another pc that's connected to it. Just checked, shold be 192,168.0.1, so each of your machines connected to it should be 192,168.0.x Is it trying to connect through a proxy server? check IE > tools>options>connections>LAN connections and make sure the box is unticked.
just a few things to be going on with......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

don't be too hasty !!! how did you try to update the drivers?? To use WZC to manage the wifi connections, open network connections>wifi connection>(right-click)properties>middle tab and tick in top box allow windows to manage my wireless connections. may have to go direct to dell and netgear sites to get latest drivers, and might need to install them whilst offline......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Downloaded 3com and netgear latest drivers from respected sites and burned them from macbook to disk

Hi, Your Laptop looks like it is configured to receive an address automatically from your Wireless Router. It is clearly trying to do this but isn't receiving a response from the Router and as a result it is timing out and the Laptop is issuing an IP address to itself in the local range of 169.xxx.xxx.xxx. Make sure DHCP is active on the Router. Then again, looking at your post since I started typing this respone it would appear that DHCP is on and issuing from IP 192.168.0.101 upwards.
Other than that you could always allocate fixed IP details to the Network Adapter, I would suggest the following (this takes into account the devices you have listed as already having and IP address to ensure there is no clash) keeping it out of the existing DHCP range:
IP Address: 192.168.0.70
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
Hope this helps.
Good luck0 -
Dizzieb thanks for the help i fixed it and have had no problems by Gunjacks help
Gunjack you hit the nail on the head and thanks again i came across a website on Google http://www.ezlan.net/wzc.html which showed the problems apperntly my netgear card disabled the windows wireless in services so i had to go into services.msc to re-enable the machine for wireless access now i can access my Nas drives and servers from it and everything else a home connection can do
Wish they had on MSE i owe you a beer button! Thanks again
