Catching Metro in Barcleona @ 5am - would you do it?

Hey Guys
Has anyone been to Barcelona and caught public transport @ 5am? I need to catch a metro to the centre to catch the airport bus.
I need to walk from my Hotel (near Sagrada Familia) to the metro station (5mins walk)
I wouldn't normally walk anywhere at 5am alone in London - I'll be travelling solo (female) and don't speak the language. Someone said I'd be fine walking around at that time as Barcelona is not a dangerous city, but really not sure about this one. Obviously I'd be doing this to save taxi fee's, but my safety is what I'm converned about. Anybody walked round thier or took metro around that time?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi - I personally wouldn't do it.
My husband and brother have been to Barcelona many times and said once midnight comes - its like someone has flicked a switch and all of a sudden it becomes a bit seedy.
Incidentally, they have both been separately and have both been mugged on the subways on their arrival into Barcelona (and both were sober)!
I don't mean to frighten you but i don't think you should risk your safety.0 -
Anecdotal I know, but a friend and I got lost at 5am in Barcelona whilst searching for a kebab house following a pretty heavy night out (classy I know).
After having a bit of banter with some German bloke on a roundabout, we ended up taking a wrong turning and found ourselves at the Arc de Triomphe with nothing more than a tube map as a means of direction (even though we had no idea which tube station was near the hotel).
To this day, neither of us know how we got back to the hotel at all but I don't remember having any issues with the local criminal fraternity, even though we practically had "p*$$ed tourists" stamped across our foreheads!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If I recall correctly, the metro near Sagrada Familia is where the Ryan Air/Easjet bus stops are and I would have thought would be quite a busy area with people travelling to and from the early airport buses.SallyD0

Just get a taxi to Plaza Catulonia where the airport bus is. It will cost you no more than 4 eurosThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Hi,
I am female, and I have caught the metro at 5am, I was with about 5 other girls.
We had been out all night and it was the first metro to run again after the nightclubs closed
I dont remember it being scary, but you need to think about your safety. One positive you will not be intoxicated and you will have your wits about you, which is half the battle.
However, if you can get a taxi direct to the Bus station for a reasonable price, I would do that, your hotel should be able to order you one.0 -
My daughter stayed in Barcelona for two nights after being at Benicassim festival and one guy of the group got separated one night while they were in Barcelona. He was mugged of his watch, cash and wallet - this was in June - about 2am and he wasn't particularly out of it. It really shook him up. Don't risk it especially on your own.0

Thank you everyone for your input. I think I will probably pay to get a taxi from the hotel to the airport bus pick up point. Apparently you get charged from when the taxi is called rather than when you get inside so that bumps up the cost, but - like many of you have said my safety is the most important.
Thanks again.0
