car insurance ripoff

I'm looking for some advice regarding ecar insurance, as I have been ripped of and I'm getting nowhere.

I took out my car insurance with ecar, but cancelled the policy within the 14 days online as it stated to do. It stated that if there was a refund due it would be sent by cheque within 14 working days. Not ideal but I thought it would be ok once I finally got it.

I kept getting email threats looking for my driving licence and my no claims proof, sayin they'd cancel my insurance if I didn't send them within 7 days.

Now I've seen that even though I cancelled my direct debit, it's been taken and my bank say I need to get in touch with Panacea to get the money back, but Panacea say I need to get the money off ecar so I'm going round in circles and getting nowhere fast.

I've paid out over £150 for 6 days of insurance, should I go straight to the FOS? And should my complaint be with Panacea or eCar?

You'd have to go to Panacea or eCar and complain, before FOS would look at it.

You cant. You need to go through the complaints process first.

That doesnt mean you are not charged. It just means you can only be charged for the days on cover and a cancellation charge.

  • I've complained to both companies already. Panacea say it's nothing to do with them, if I want a refund I need to speak to my broker (?) and this is the reply I've had from ecar insurance:

"The option to cancel your policy is there to make cancellations when the policy has been confirmed. The policy is not confirmed until we have received all parts of any driving licences requested and proof of No Claims Discount.

I have searched through our email servers and have not located any cancellation correspondence except the one we received on the 23/08/2011 at 20:09, which is the day after the cancellation was attempted.

With regards to cancellation fees and other charges, we state in our Terms of Business, which you read and accepted before purchasing the policy, refunds are subject to cancellation fees and the cost of the time your insurance policy was running.

If you can provide proof that you have been dual insured since the 13/08/2011, we can then look into backdated the cancellation as requested."

I don't expect to not get charged but there is no way they can expect to keep £102.55 and £30.56 for 6 days cover!

prove you had cover somewhere else and shouldnt be a problem, why didnt you want to provide license or proof of no claims
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I'd already sent a copy of my licence, then cancelled the policy or so I thought. It wasn't a case of not wanting to provide proof, I was getting daily threats by email and had already sent my licence so why continue to pay a company like that money?
