filename not file copying in bulk

hi all

I wonder if anyone can help me??

I have a lot of files that I need to index. I need to copy the filename into excel. To do this at the moment I have to right click on the file, rename then copy then paste into excel. I have a lot of files and doing it this way would take me ages!! :-(

Does anyone know if there is a quicker way to do this or a program (free??) which will do it for me?

Thanks in advance!

    c:
    cd \whateverthedirectoryiscalled

    dir >c:\files.txt

then import the text file to excel.
