Home Owner Prob Going Into Care. Can Policy Stay In Their Name?

Mum owns her home - no mortgage. I live there too, having been her carer for years.

She'll probably soon go into a care home, leaving me here. But the house remains 100% hers, and won't be sold or let.

So can the policy stay in her name? I believe only the owner can insure the buildings in particular.

It's urgent, as renewal is due soon, but I can't see any reason not to just let it automatically renew.
Having studied the policy, I can see no change of circumstance the insurers seem to require notification of.

The house should still be insured in your mum's name.

I would say that it would be a material fact to declare she is not living there, but also declare it has been your home for xx years.

It may change, say if she was receiving an elderly persons discount, but the house is still legally her property so it should be in her name. If at any stage you get Power of Attorney, also let them know, so that you could deal with any issues on her behalf; eg sign claim forms.
