Netgear DG834G router and Technika AV sender

Has anyone got both of these (the Technika sender is from Tesco and was recommended on this site) and managed to configure them both to work along side each other?
I have tried changing channels on both but this just knocks my wireless connection out altogether.

when you say you changed channels on both, did you then update the channel setting on your PC to the same otherwise it won't see it?0

Sorry I don't think I made myself very clear.
I bought the sender to broadcast SKY to my portable TV upstairs. When it is switched on it affects the wireless signal on my router which freezes. There are 4 channel options on the sender and I have tried all 4. I have also changed channels on the router but each time I try the wireless connection just freezes again.
I wondered if anyone had experienced this problem with interference between these 2 devices and had established a configuration that allows both to work along side each other. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Hi tharweb.
Your problem is that both devices are using the same frequency (2.4 ghz). AV senders have always used this however, they dont conform to any IT standard unlike the wireless AP (Access point) you bought.
3 things you can do
1. Switch the wireless off when you want to watch telly.... excellent security method too!
or
2. Move the satellite decoder to a central area and run coax to each tv plus an IR receiver to allow changing of channels (reasonably cheap)
or
3. Return the Netgear AP, and get a 'a' standard rather than the 'g' standard. They both run the same speed however 'a' uses 5 ghz rather than the 2.4 ghz of the 'g' standard. Other downsides to this include 'a' provides a wireless radius and you'll have to have 'a' standard wireless cards in your laptop / pda.
Food for thought.Money makes the world go round! Keep spending!!0 -
No. 1 is an option I have considered but as I have to log in to the routers web interface to turn the wireless off, it's not very practical for me.
No. 2 I have a cable running from the decoder to another room already but didn't want cable to this second location as it would be more hassle, hence the purchase of the sender.
No. 3 I have a Centrino laptop which only operates b/g.
Oh well, looks like I'll either have to go with No. 1 or do an Ebay!
Thanks for your advice. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

sorry to dig up this old thread, but I thought I'd update people with the results of a little experiment I've been this week...
As mentioned above, this sender and this netgear box (now also the box provided as standard by Sky for their wireless broadband, and as such now getting a whole lot more use in households), do suffer a lot of problems when used together.
Now other people have found their is a solution to get them to work together, but never posted what they did...
Below I'll let you know what I did to get it work, but bear in mind this may not work for everyone, so you too may need to experiment in your own home.
However for me, setting the netgear wireless channel (go into the router admin http://192.168.0.1 user: admin pass: sky (which you should change by the way) - set the channel to 11
Sender box and receivers -underneath each one you can select the channel for those.. set that to 2.
and bob should be your uncle.

Usually using channels at the other end of the spectrum should sort it, or minimize interference. Either 1 or 13 on the router, and 4 or 1 on the sender.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Thanks for the update...the Sky router is the DG834GT though isn't it and is based on a different chipset to the DG834G which I was* using. Don't know if this makes a difference to the wireless side of things though. As far as I can rermember I tried all possibilities but couldn't get them to live in harmony.
*Note the was. Got Ebayed after dodgy SNR reporting when I upgraded to MaxDSL.
I'm now using a Speedtouch 780...maybe I should try the sender again.

Just come across this thread and I have the same equipment (Netgear DG834GT and Technika AV sender).
Seems like there is no cure - I have tried all channel combinations.
Gonna get the SDS drill and a long scart cable out on the weekend
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
have you tried both ends of the spectrum, channel A and channel 13, or D and 1Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
