Late payment fees

I have no idea how to get through to him. My hubby does not pay his cc bills on time. He has four credit cards and every month we get at leat one that contains a late payment fee. There is no problem paying them, he just doesn't bother with it. Reckons *they* can wait! At one point, before I started going through his mail we were paying about £150 a month just in these random avoidable fees.
Help me get through to him!
What is this doing to his credit rating?

get him to set up DD to clear the cards each month.0

dont know what to say to that...maybe he should cut up the CC and only use a debit card, then it comes straight out of the a/c0

Are the amounts similar each month or does he pay off the total outstanding? If the amounts are similar perhaps he would set up standing orders - these are in his control rather than direct debits where you are giving a 3rd party the authority to take money out of your account.
Also some online banks will let you schedule payments weeks in advance so perhaps you could encourage him to schedule them all at the beginning of each month.
Re the credit rating - each late payment could show as a default so may prevent him getting credit or the best rates in the future. These stay on his record for 6 years.Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
you can set up DD to pay the minimum payment only each month.CLAPTON wrote:get him to set up DD to clear the cards each month.0 -
My father was the same way, not missing payments but just making them late.
Totalled up £250 worth of charges per card and told him.
He now gets that they should be paid on time

I have no idea what these are, but thank you, I'll do some research. But he's not in control, really I would prefer the DDs.

I like this, but he'd still have to look in his account. My favourite is our electricity and gas from an internet-only provider - you have to log in, check your account and pay - he NEVER does this and all I ever see is the red reminder bills, as they never send the first ones.

He used to be a CC tart, but seems to have stopped that. I'm guessing he will no longer be allowed new CCs, not ones with any useful limits anyway. Or to get a better morgage...
And btw, we pay the minimum payment only, although always with a big extra to get rid of the debt.:wall:0 -

In this case, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it think.
