i will try the netgear thing again tonight, but i can't remember any passwords i may have used the first time round, will this be a problem ?

You will need your screenname/password to enter them into the router but you may be able to get them from your USB modem set-up screen.

ok thanks, finally if..i get this router working (it's a big if) does this mean i can uninstall aol from my PC :j .

Yes you could as it is basically not needed.
