broadband disconnecting

For the past few weeks when the phone rings our broadband connection goes off and it's really annoying. We have had no new lines/phones/router or jack. I can't think of anything that has changed to cause it.
Can anyone give me an idea of where to start looking for a remedy, please?

Has one of the ADSL Filters stopped working?0

Only have the 1, how can I check if it's working correctly or not?
(Excuse the moron questions but as you've probably guessed I'm not techie-minded).
Thinking about it the only other thing I've done is added the free AVG antivirus software, but can't recall if that's when the problem started.0 -

No recently installed software will cause your problem. Normally you get at least two ADSL filters with routers but if you haven't got another spare one to try, then buy one. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Hopefully you got two filters and you know where it is, trying another one is a good first move
adsl disconnects when the phone rings.- Check filters and internal wiring.
- Check for noise on the line by doing a quiet line test. - Dial 17070 and select option 2.
- Possibly a fault on the actual phone line perhaps due to worn cables or water on the line.
Uncommon problem but possibly related to high resistance on the line caused by a worn cable/damaged joint.
If it used to work then the way you have it connected is unlikely to be the cause

Ask your ISP support if they can send another one

It sounds like an ADSL filter problem. What type of filter do you have? Is it one that was packaged with the router?
These filters are rumoured to be good:

as well as the iPlate: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=7256
BT installed one of these for me: http://www.clarity.it/xcart/product.php?productid=16134&cat=0&page=1&featured and my connection speed increased slightly (approx 0.5 Mbps)0 -
Thank you so much for the advice, have found another filter and changed over. Now I just have to wait and see if I'm popular enough for someone to phone me, lol.
( Will probably be a call telling me I have a problem and we can fix it for you!!!)0
