My auntie got scammed by someone claiming they were Microsoft the other day. They didnt ask for any money, they just called up, asking her if her computer had been running slowly lately, which it had, and then said that she had a virus and gave her instructions on what to download to get rid of it. After the call the penny dropped, and she called microsoft who (obviously) confirmed that it was not them who called, and to cancel cards/etc. and to clean up the computer.
She is a clever woman, and its scary to think that the con artists are that good. Makes me worry about the older members of my family.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

I've had one of these calls this morning.
I'm just a bit concerned as to how they got my details seeing as I only moved in last week.0 -

I just try to find new and inventive ways to waste their time when I'm in the mood. I get these kinds of calls on a daily basis. I have no idea where they get my details from as I'm signed up to the TPS and have been ex-directory since I got this landline.0

I can only think that at some time in the past you have given your name, address and phone no. to some organisation and they have passed/sold the details on.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
The last one I had, I just kept on saying how good of them it was to call me about problems with my computer and I asked them which computer it was.
I was almost disappointed when they hung up on me.
Next time I'll try asking if it's the pink computer or the grey one (or is it beige - I don't know).0
