Do a left at the traffic lights, straight over the roundabout and its just there on the left.

Now I could only really do sensible directions if I knew where you were starting from :D

    Edit-
Doh! Except its York....you had best take the bypass then, it'll save you a few minutes :D

Does York have a bypass then.

I have no idea - not been there since I was 14. But there is bound to be a bypass or two between there and here...and they are sure to save a few minutes. Whole point of having them, after all ;)
Who or what was I before you came in to my life
    I am not sure

I bought three large chickens in t today, SEL said 1.88 kg but the chicken was marked 1.94kg. Returned to CS to be told no problems with labelling meat allways varies......... no r 'n' r, was she right i got embarressed, had refund and left.

Some items like chickens etc are "group" priced based on weight, for example if the bird weighs 1.1kg it may cost more per kg than a bird that weighs 1.6kg.

For example the SEL will point out:

    Chickens 500g - 1.5kg = GBP1.5 per kg.

    Chickens 1.5kg - 2kg = GBP1 per kg. etc.
"What the large print giveth - doth the small print taketh away."
  • Just purchased a mobile as the £20 sign was still showing. SEL of the handset was £169.97 but it went through at £149.97 plus I got £20 of free air time. Looks like they've just discounted the handset price as receipt doesn't say £20 off discount.

It is the price per Kg that is the key on individually priced items

    For example
SEL price = £10 per Kg
Pack price = £12 per Kg
    Item weighs 1.5 Kg
If you are charged £15, you have been charged the SEL price, £10 per Kg.
If you are charged £18, you have been charged the pack price, £12 per Kg.This is an overcharge, and should be refunded, as you have not been charged the lowest advertised price.
If the SEL says £5 per kg, but all packs on the shelf are priced at £1.25, then no R&R due.
It also helps to be able to decipher the barcode information.

I have found this in my old 'info file'.
It was originally posted by Constantine ages ago, & I saved it.

Thanks to Constantine for the info.
    ORIGINALLY QUOTED by Constantine
I have posted this a few times before, I guess one more won't hurt

The SEL includes the 13 digit barcode for the product. For a standard item (ie a can of beans) the digits will match exactly. For catchweight items it is slightly different as the price per item is part of the barcode.

For example - 0245237 001851 is the barcode on the pack of lamb chops I happen to have in my fridge.

0245237 is the code for the chops and will appear on all packs. This will appear on the SEL as 0245237000000. Match the pack to the SEL and they are the same item.

001851 is the price, with the last digit a check digit. So my chops cost £001.85. This will be unique for each item depending on the weight of the item, which is why it is shown as zeros on the SEL.

The problem arrises on meat (plus some cheese and veg) specifically because when there is a price change it is not possible to put in a system fix for each individual variably priced pack. Each pack needs to be individually repriced. Its this process which so often seems to not happen.

    Hope this helps Busby
    Thanks again to Constantine:beer:

The shelf edge label was in date at the time - i bought the phone on the 6th and the sel expired on the 7th.
    Will try head office.

Pop in tomorrow, I'll hand write the SEL for these myself so you can get an over charge. Feel free to clear the shelf.
