Grainy playback on HD camcorder

Hi.

I have a Samsung R10 HD camcorder. Using a Transcend Class 10 8GB SD card with it.

Problem I have is that the playback on PC looks very 'digitalised' around the edges of the subject when moving i.e. very blocky.

Grateful for any ideas?

What lighting conditions were the recordings made under? What settings are you using?

Inside and out are pretty grainy. Set on pretty much auto and full HD.

But what about your machine? Is it capable of FullHD playback?

Try using Media Player Classic: mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/download-media-player-classic-hc.html

If still no good, you may need to upgrade RAM or add a graphics card if that proves to be the problem.

Yes, laptop has a graphics card already installed and 3GB RAM. Will try a different media player.

Reckon the SD card is OK? Told that anything above Class 4 is ok.

If its non-fluidic movement I would look at there being an issue with your playback. If it is grainy images I would more suspect there being an issue with recording.

The problem with all consumer camcorders is their sensors are so small and therefore suffer badly from noise particularly in low light. It's why the dSLRs with video capabilities are making such headway with anyone who doesn't have tens of thousands to buy a Red One or other "pro" equipment.

How does it play on your TV if you hook the camera directly to the TV?

Increase the file size or bit rate for a given length of time of the recording or set it to record in an uncompressed format. What you are experiencing is compression noise or artifacting which is caused by compressing the data to reduce the file size. Same happens to JPGs when you increase the compression to make the file size smaller.
