    Yes. I had 3 x 12 month AST's. The last of which expired the start of this month, and I vacated on the last day.

    If you verbally agreed to sign another fixed-term but then changed you mind and vacated on or before the last day and gave your landlord notice before it expired that you would indeed not be signing they haven't got a leg to stand on in demanding any "lost rent" from you.

    Then I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just dispute the charges with whoever the deposit is protected through.
