I have just tried a couple of the price comparision websites & having put in my current supplier (EON), current tariff (Saveonline2) & fuel usage they both said that currently I should be paying £991 a year, which would be £82.58 a month. However I having been paying £130 a month, which went up to £181 2 months ago.
I wonder if I am putting in the wrong fuel usage figures.
Elec - My elec meter reading on 1/9/10 was 79743 & is 88783 today, so I put in 9040.
Gas - My meter reading on 1/9/10 was 12776 & is 15537 today so I put in 2761, so I put in 2761.
Am I correct to put in these figures or should I be converting them somehow ?

Electricity meters read kWhrs directly.
If you are correctly reading 5 digits of a metric gas meter you need to multiply the reading by 11.
Your electricity consumption is about 3 times average and your gas consumption twice which would make your monthly payments about double. I take it you are aware of a reason?0 -
Thanks for that. I'm obviously putting in the Gas figure incorrectly - I will multiple it by 11 and try again.
It is a big old cold house (original sash windows etc) & I am a southern jessie who feels the cold.0 -
Gas usage for 2010 was probably about 10% high compared to recent years, as we had two very cold months (January, December) in the same calendar year.
Deduct 10% from your kWh total gas figures for a more typical estimate.0 -
To get the best from Switch sites, you have enter your Gas & Elec consumption for the year in Kwh
The Elec is easy 'cos each meter unit is a Kwh
The gas however is not straight forward as there are 2 types of gas meter - Look at yours:
If it's marked m3 on the front you multiply the meter units used by 11.2 to convert to Kwh
If it's marked ft3 on the front you multiply the meter units used by 31.5 to convert to Kwh0
