Can a 8x AGP card be used in a 4x support board

My board only supports 1, 2, and 4x for AGP card. My graphic card does not have DVI, and I want to buy a new card with DVI. Would it be possible to use a 8x graphic card with a motherboard only supporting 4x speed?
And where can I find a cheap graphic card with DVI?
Thanks

Generally yes
It does depend on the card and you should spend some time checking, but it shouldn't be a problem
Cheap cards : Ebay, dabs.com, amazon.co.uk, scan.co.uk, overclockers.co.uk, aria.co.uk0 -
I'm running an ATI RADEON X1300 PRO (8xAGP) on a mobo with only 4xAGP support. Absolutely no problems here.
~£55 on Amazon0 -
If I'm reading your post correctly, you have an AGP 1 + 2x mobo with support for 4x.
It may not support 8x due to the different signaling voltage.
1x/2x 1.5V or 3.3V
4x 0.8V or 1.5V
8x 0.8V
as a rule of thumb if the AGP slot has 2 lumps in it...for the 2 key slots in the card...then an 8x card will work in it
But please remember it will still only work at the fastest speed of the mobo i.e. at 4x
