if the engine complete is a good 'un change the whole lot, the difference is taken up by the cost of consumables and its a small engine easy to remove and refit, labour should take a similar amount of time if not less
easier to fit a new cambelt too
if you snapped a valve the contact could have done the pistons in
bung in the whole engine and keep it simple, if you can get the bolt ons from the old engine too (scrappers woudd supply the engine complete i would hope) even if its just a box of bits leave it in the shed, it may save you more £££ in the future if something else goes wrong0
