Car insurance renewal savings

Just to let you know I am 41, I have just renewed my car insurance and saved about £50 by using a comparison site then contacting the top 3 insurers for even cheaper insurance.
My renewal came from Swinton and was a staggering £690 fully comp(not including the APR by paying by instalments), I only have a 2001 Mondeo deisel, this had gone up £190 from the previous year. I then used Go Compare, moneysupermarket and compare the market, and I contacted the top 3 of the sites and managed to save another £50 from the quotes I got from comparison sites.
Swinton were trying their hardest to try and lower my premium and their final price came down from £690 to £495. The quote that I took was from Tesco on the comparison sites and Tesco were between £410-£435, by going direct I managed to get it down to £384 fully comp. :money:
So don't just accept the quotes you get via the comparison sites, contact the insurers at the top and see if you save even more.
