CD UK, debt recovery harassment

Options
Yesterday I took a phone call from a woman who was trying to get in touch with one of my daughters. She said she worked for a company called CD UK and asked if I would pass on her phone number to my daughter, she also gave me a reference number to quote. She wouldn't give me any other information quoting the Data Protection Act.

I spoke to my daughter and as I was on the net at the time I Googled CD UK and found out that it was a debt recovery company (Claims Direct UK). I also found reference to them on the Consumer Action Website:

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?134414-CDUK.-Who-are-they

I also found an 01 number for her to ring on saynoto0870.

My daughter later informed me that she had spoken to CD UK and they told her they were chasing a debt of £90 that she owed to Warehouse. She informed them that she had paid off all her debts before she went travelling two years ago and in fact she had a credit of 5 pence with Warehouse. The person she spoke to confirmed this!

What I am struggling to understand is how someone can accumulate a debt if they are in credit! She has asked CD UK to provide the evidence to show her that she owes the money, they have been most unhelpful so she is going to contact Warehouse today.

Is there anything else that she should/can or not do? Has anyone else had dealings with this company?

I'd appreciate any feedback on this please.

Denis

My daughter's just phoned me to say that she has contacted Warehouse and been told 'it's a computer error'! So she doen't owe a thing!

I find it absolutely astounding that companies can get away with this. This could have really worried some people.

could send them a BILL for time spent/telephone calls/stress etc etc etc at a rate of GBP 9.25 per hour, see what happens, then send letter before action if no response, that should wake them up!

If they do not pay up threaten a debt collection agency (ask if they could suggest a genuine one)?.

    could be fun!

It's not a button... it's an automated function in the billing software...

Anyway - get the "it's an error" in writing if you can :)

She needs to check her credit file, there may well be a default.

If Warehouse made an error, she has every right to have it removed if there is one there.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
