hi where abouts in SE was you looking for, it is rather a large area.
i live just outside romford and although i would not like to live actually in romford its easily commutable 10 mins by car buses and trains everywhere.
i have lived in my are from a child and have never had any problems, my children go to local schools and there is some good senior schools.
if your looking on right move its the rm3 area postcode. you will have romford, harold hill, harold wood in your price range. harold wood being the nicer area out of them

Beware of OFSTED reports giving glowing reports to London schools, based not on achievement, but on what they do with the calibre of intake.
Oh, and telling people who are helping you free what kind of answers they are allowed to give is a little naff.Been away for a while.0 -
Bexley borough could work for you. I grew up in Sidcup and it didn't do me any harm! Loads of Primary schools, though I couldn't tell you the Ofsted ratings - PM me if you want some names of schools to check. There are also three good grammar schools in the borough if you're thinking of staying long-term.
3 beds are going for £250k-£280k (though you may want to check this too as I don't know what kind of home you're after). Good transport links into London and less than a mile from the A2 and A20. Let me know if you want anymore info!0 -
blackheath is lovely you would probably only get an ex local authority property for that budget and schools surrounding that area are dire regardless of ofsted. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

I agree with Alibear, I grew up in Bexley too and definitely benefitted from a grammar school education.
My primary school was good too, I have been very fortunate :-)
Blackheath is nice but I agree about the schools, I have friends who live there and apart from the CofE primary school there is very little choice so they are going down the private route. As for secondary- forget it unless you want to pay. Also, housing stock round there is pretty much flats or very expensive houses.
Another thought is the borough of Bromley, I am not that clued up on the area or schools but I have family who live near there and they seem to like it! Good luck!Saving for an early retirement!0 -
Hi I agree with Imelda and Alibear - Bexley and Sidcup - great for schools - and you can get a lovely 3 bed 30's style semi for your budget. There are some very good grammar schools and new acadameys in the area for secondary. Not sure about primary schools, which I know you are looking at - but I am sure there must be - there is a very good primary church school in Shooters Hill (I think it is called Christ Church??) Don't be put off by the SE18 postcode - you could get a very nice 3 bed house in your price range around the Shooters Hill Slopes area
There is a very good but always over subscribed primary school in Greenwich (which is taking on another class in 2012 to help) but to be in the catchment area and for a 3 bed house you are looking over the 400K level!! madness I know!
Blackheath - I think you would struggle too to get anything decent in a 3 bed house in your price range.
Bexley/sidcup/welling - all very good - and good transport links and a really nice area - lots of green spaces.
good luck!!The worst cliques are those which consist of one man ~ George Bernard Shaw
