Sold car to a "dealer" - worried about paperwork.
I sold my car to a del boy type character last night. He filled in section 9 (motor trader, insurer, or dismantler) of the logbook.
My issue is he filled it in quite badly, his hand writing is poor and he gave no VAT number.
Is this going to cause me problems? The tax runs out on the 31st of this month (its the 24th now), so I want to get this sent off so im not liable for any tax. Im just worried its going to be rejected? Do I need to worry?

You still have to send off the V5 do you not? Just make sure you bang it in the post recorded delivery as above.
I had a simialr thing recently, got the thank you letter from the DVLA a week or so later no issues.

The trader doesn't have to be VAT registered, just send the V5C/3 off and you should get an acknowledgement in a couple of weeks that it is "in trade". Otherwise, phone up DVLA and chase it up.0

5t.
I was under the impression that if you sell to a dealer they fill out the yellow section and hand it back to the seller. They keep the V5 to fill out the details of whoever buys it from them, give them the green slip then send the V5 to the DVLA so it can be updated with the new owners details.0 -

You might well be right! Trying to remember the process however, the chap was just a backyard trader, so same as above no VAT number and terrible writing.
It all went well is the point I'm making
