Sign wasn't there when I parked

This is a funny one (well, not that funny as I got the fine), I have always a place where I park close to work, it has always been fine, no signs, no yellow lines, NOTHING. Then last week I parked as usual and coming back I get a fine on my windscreen "parked in residents place without displaying the permission" blah, blah, blah.... that sign wasn't even there before (as far as I know), can they put a sign after I parked the car and charge a fine the same day? I am going to appeal on the first ground i.e. "they got it wrong", I don't have any evidence (didn't think of photographing the place the day before with NO sign), Can I ask for any evidence from them about WHEN exactly they put the sign? is there any way to check the date that sign was posted? will they be reasonable and honest as to say, "sorry, we got it wrong, that sign was posted that day at 11.15 am?" it looks like a silly excuse, but I know the area and THAT sign WAS NOT there before.

Who is it from Council or Private company ?
Private -just ignore the idiots.
Council, appeal -you can get good advice here ..https://www.pepipoo.com0 -
If its a council ticket Pepipoo is the best place for you to get advice as advised above.
If its a private parking company ignore them, they cant fine you, they cant charge you, but they do have the right to ask you not to park on their land.0 -

Post on Pepipoo, as its council they will have times and dates when the signs were fixed. If they were fixed after you parked it should be an easy win!0
