Insurance for pre exsisting conditions - who's good?

As above really, I need an insurance company that covers pre existing medical conditions.

First time traveller so I've no idea who's good and who's to be avoided.

Have looked and confused.com, money supermarket etc. And searched for reviews. Trouble being they all seem to have terrible reviews, I imagine because people tend to rant when things go wrong and happily carry on when they don't. Was going to go with Halifax but they get bad reviews too.

So, can anyone recommend an insurer they've had experience with or know someone who has. Even of it's bad and it's advice to avoid. Obviously I need to pick a decent company if, god forbid anything should happen I need to know they're reliable.

Thanks for any advice.

    Here are few

    insure and go
    all clear
    get my travel
  • It may depend upon your pre existing condition and how long it is since you last had treatment. I had major back surgery in 2001 and my wife had cancer treatment in 2005. We have a premium co-op bank current account that includes worldwide travel as standard and they accepted all our conditions last year with an excess of £40. As we have had no further treatment for over 5 years now we don't get charged any more. The added bonus with this policy is that it's valid until we're 75 or so as long as we keep the account going. Account costs £9-50 per month but also provides mobile phone cover and experian access so I consider it to be good value as we have 3 phones on it as well.

    Appreciate the replies.
  • Columbus was recomended to me by a friend who works in insurance last year as my son had a pre existing medical condition. Price was very reasonable too.

I have always used LV because of the exemplary telephone service and advice regarding medical issues - their website enables you to do your own pre-screening which helps.

I've never claimed under travel, but their car insurance claim handling was excellent.

  • With regards to Travel insurance for older people or cover for pre-existing medical condtions, I was given a list of recommended insurance companies from the British Heart Foundation (you can get this as a pdf yourself from their website) which led me to 'Holiday Travel and Medical Insurance' Tel 01773 769406 (747426) they have a basic website called 'ask about insurance' They say they 'offer a choice of policies depending on where you are travelling to and can sometimes discount rates for age 65 plus. There is usually no age limit'.

I had already used MSE to find the best quotes I could get from all those recommended as well as many others. Having spent countless hours completing the medical screenings etc and then getting rediculously expensive quotes for my 75yr old mum to travel to Australia, (she had many pre-existing conditions including Angina and diabetes), I was about to give up when I was recommended to look at the BHF list on their website. Having already tried most on that list, I called the first one - 'Holiday Travel and Medical Insurance' and spoke to a lovely gentleman who recommended the best companies for my needs and I was then given freephone numbers of companies to call and a code to quote.

I got fantastic quotes from the recommended companies, so much so that I took out the policy with the best priced. which happened to also be the one 'Which' had recommended as best buy for over 70s in 2010.

So where I was being quoted £580 with Saga I was quoted £193.93 with Avanti via Holiday Travel and Medical Insurance. I should add i have no link to any Insurance companies, but thought this info might save others days of searching or at least give a good starting quote. Hope it helps. :T:cool::j
